This summer whilst on a family visit in France my better half and I, together with our two little ones took a trip to Colorado Provencal in Rustrell, some kilometres from Marseille. What a great place to visit, with its splendid panoramic views. Besides, there were not a lot of visitors so we could amply maintain our social distancing from other humans.
Colorado Provencal is in reality an old quarry where ochre (an earthy pigment containing ferric oxide, typically with clay, varying from light yellow to brown or redquarry) was extracted. The quarry has been restored into a beauty spot where one can enjoy the natural ‘paysage‘ (French word for landscape). The red coloured soil evokes a surrealist impression, as if one is suddenly transplanted onto a another planet – Mars? It is a place which elicits a lot of fantasy and one is inspired to shoot fantastic pics.
