Reflecting on a Year Through the Lens: 2024 in Review

As 2024 draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the various moments I’ve captured and the stories told through my lens this year. I always say that photography is more than just images; it’s a way of preserving memories, emotions, and perspectives that might otherwise fade with time.


This year has been another journey of growth, creativity, and discovery. From experimenting with new equipment to embracing the unexpected, I’ve realized that photography isn’t just about what we plan to capture but also about what we discover along the way. This unpredictability is part of what makes photography so enjoyable.





Early in the year, I challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone by posting photos I genuinely liked, regardless of the number of likes they received on social media. It was both humbling and rewarding. This shift helped me become more adventurous in my photography, allowing me to experiment and be more creative without seeking others’ approval.


Looking back, certain shoots stood out for their unique challenges or emotional impact. This year, I focused much more on portrait photography—an area I hope to continue exploring and refining in the coming year.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of 2024 has been sharing my passion for photography with my students at school. Thanks to a photography and media club we set up, I now have a group of students who are genuinely interested and motivated to learn. During our sessions, I shared tips and encouraged them to practice photography wherever they went, reminding them never to feel discouraged by others’ feedback.

This year also marked the retirement of one of my everyday cameras, the Canon EOS M5. This camera has been a reliable companion on countless family outings over the years. One unforgettable moment with this camera occurred during a show at my daughter’s singing academy. I was casually taking photos of her performance when the organizer asked me to photograph the entire event. I was caught off guard, as I didn’t have my usual tools for such a task—no external flash and no extra batteries. However, I made do with what I had, carefully adjusting the settings and shooting throughout the event. By the end, I was pleased with the results, and the organizer was grateful for the photos.



2024 reminded me that photography isn’t just about the final image. It’s about patience, adaptability, and, most importantly, the simple joy of taking photos. There were days when the light wasn’t perfect or the weather didn’t cooperate, but those challenges pushed me to think creatively and make the most of every situation.



As I look ahead to 2025, I’m excited to continue working on my photography goals. This year, I want to focus on using photography as a tool to document life—a way to capture the essence of people, places, and everyday moments. I’ve been contemplating how photography can showcase individuals and their unique personas, and I’m eager to bring that vision to life.
